Tree trimming and pruning in Lakeland and Polk County, FL
Free referral service: we connect you with independent local tree service providers. Calls may be recorded. How it works
Why trim before storm season
UF/IFAS hurricane research found that tree structure and health strongly affect how trees survive high winds. Removing dead wood and weak or crossing branches before June gives storms less to break.
Avoid over-thinning
UF/IFAS guidance warns against stripping interior branches and topping, which can create weak regrowth. Ask for structural pruning rather than heavy 'lion-tailing'.
What affects price
Height, access, proximity to the house or power lines, the number of trees and whether debris is hauled away are the main drivers listed by HomeGuide for tree work.
Permits
Routine pruning that keeps a tree healthy is generally treated differently from removal. Lakeland's code, for example, excludes routine trimming or pruning from its definition of land clearing. See our permit guide before major work.
